Reverse Racism: DEBUNKED

*sigh* reblogging because my spirit is weary of combatting very silly (albeit possibly well intentioned remarks) on my blog posts from white people who have not the faintest clue about racism, but arrogantly try to teach me about it. Please read this breakdown. If you don’t agree with it, then that’s fine, but probably no point commenting on my blog – we can just agree to disagree :-).

I vehemently dislike the term PoC. I connotes that ‘White’ is not a colour, or is the norm, or that colour is a defining characteristic for those who carry it. The latter is a belittling prejudice in and of itself, and therefore not something I am willing to assume as a human being.

I’m not someone who thinks it’s possible for people to be colour blind. I have taught my daughter that it is evil, yes, evil, to treat someone differently owing to the colour of their skin… it’s not a definitive characteristic when choosing or maintaining your interactions.

Finally, there is only one race. The human race. There are no racial subdivisions thereof. There are ethnic and cultural differences, and our ability to learn the value of others’ ethnicity and cultures will be a big factor in bringing variety to life, progressive synthesis and appreciation of our brothers and sisters whose skin may be a different hue to our own.

Refinement of your points above perhaps. Sympathetic, surely. This dialogue has been evolving in my head since childhood, so I occasionally indulge myself when presented with an opportunity to present where I’m at with it…

Haha, I am loving this. Although I would kind of challenge the claim that people of colour are the only ones who suffer from institutionalized prejudice today – a few groups come to mind who suffer from such prejudice. Like, let’s say (incomplete list) women, Muslims, Jews, I’ll even include disabled people here. Obviously there will be overlap since the groups are so huge and reality is more complex than prejudice (bombshell, I know) but I would just like to note that. Not intending to play one against another here, I would just like to register my discomfort at the exclusivity claim. And I am not subscribing to the comments this time:D
