The Breakup (a poem)

break up

The bitterness choked like the hands of a stranger

She wasn’t waiting for his leaving

No way, no how

How he just stood up

Stood up and looked at her

Looking so familiar, speaking a strangers words

It’s not going to work but

I really tried and

Maybe it’s for the best you

Will find someone better

We will find better for both of us

Two weeks ago he stood there

Telling her her life would be

better built with a stranger

Two weeks and the bitter taste

Would not give in to sweetness

No way, no how

She wasn’t waiting for his leaving…
